Monday Drawing
Having completed the short course of weekly drawing sessions, I believe it would be beneficial to reflect on what I have taken from this.
Overall, I enjoy the drawing sessions as I believe it is successful in providing new drawing techniques that I might have otherwise not considered. It also has allowed to have alternative outlooks on how I can view my subject matter for the project.
We have had multiple techniques taught to us, such as mono-printing, graphite drawing, drawing with bleach and paper cut outs. My favourite drawing session was the one focused on observational drawing. The tutors leading the session were open with the techniques and materials we could use. Therefore, I used collaging to catch the observation of my butterflies. I believe this really allowed an exciting exploration and observation, and was a way of working I really enjoyed.
I mentioned this was my favourite technique at the end of drawing review. However, I also discussed my enjoyment of using the bleach and ink drawing technique. I also explained that though I enjoyed it, I would find it hard to adapt it towards my work. When I said this, a peer suggested how you could mix a kind of paint with the ink, and then add bleach which would allow a more varied colour palette. This is something I could explore in the future, and it might be worth discussing it with a print technician.
I am overall very happy with my work completed in the drawing sessions. Any session I missed due to absence I also made sure I caught up on. The techniques I have learnt will definitely be considered for future work, and I am happy how it has broadened my mind and ideas.
