Mid-Point Review

This halfway point of the project is a good point to reflect on all the work I have completed so far, and the next steps for the last few weeks of the project.

The groups for this review were separated into specialism groups (i.e. embroidery). I was quite disappointed with this, as I thought it would be different specialisms mixing together, which would allow a completely different outlook on to the direction and work completed in this project. Therefore, perhaps I could take time to have conversations with people from different specialisms in the year 2 studio space

However, when sharing the work everyone in my group had done, it was still clear how differently everyone had taken the project, and the different techniques people have decided to develop.

It was interesting to see how people have mostly chosen to develop two separate projects, rather than combining their summer project, and the Royal Armouries Museum. Though I have decided to do it differently, and combine my projects, I am happy with this decision, as I believe I have made really interesting comparisons, which has really driven experimentation within my work.

I was quite disappointed as everyone in my group highlighted aspects of my work they liked such as laser cutting, and highlighting how I've been very experimental. However, they failed to provide ways to develop my work. This lead me to ask a print tutor overseeing the review for feedback, and she suggested combining my soft printed fabrics with my more structured laser cut pieces in photography. This is something I might consider to explore in the upcoming weeks. This also lead me to considering a combination of contrasting materials that reflect the difference between butterflies and armour.
