Group Tutorial
After my first group tutorial, I think it is a good time to reflect upon my work completed so far, and bring strong focus for my week ahead.
I have enjoyed the different dynamic of this tutorial, as a group means that a different viewpoint on my work can be shared, and enables inspiration to be gained from listening to other peoples project development.
My tutor was happy at the body of work I had produced so far in the project. My collage work continues to be at the level of quality I want. However, I want to continue to develop and challenge my way of working like this. One way I want to do this is by working larger scale. I've started working out of my sketchbook on A2 Sheets. However, I want to go bigger, and explore how collage would work when scaled larger. I also believe making this will enable more energy in my collage work- A feeling I really like to explore in my work.
Myself and Elnaz are both happy with linking a butterfly's wing structure, and the structure of armour. I should laser cut soon, as I believe it would explore this idea in interesting ways, and would link to my collaging technique.
Elnaz believes the large scale of my quilting sample is the scale I should continue sampling at. Though I agree with her, this scale overwhelms me since I've never worked this large. Therefore, testing would be the best way to find what is successful. We also agreed quilting translates my collages into my sample work well.
Regarding things to consider when moving forward, Elnaz and my group suggested maybe exploring marbling again, as I enjoyed this in my summer work. They also suggested starting a material hunt, focusing on thin, delicate materials such as cupro or silk (materials which reflect the quality of a butterfly's wing). I should also consider material quality and weight, as this will bring a level of sophistication in my work.
I always need to ensure I keep a focus on the purpose of my work. As I have an interest in an interactive, educational purpose of my work, I need to research this area more, and gain a wider understanding in how this can be achieved.
