Tutorial Reflection- Ideas and Collaboration
Since starting this project, I have really found the tutorials important in developing my ideas, and getting feedback. These tutorials also allow collaboration, as my peers and tutor relay ideas I may have otherwise not considered. As we all explore our specialism in a variety of different ways, this feedback allows knowledge of different techniques and materials that I might not be aware of. This allows new ways of development, and stepping out of my comfort zone.
Starting the tutorial, I passed round samples I had made over the past two weeks. Everyone agreed my samples were very sensory and tactile, which made them successful, as that was what I wanted them to achieve. However, Kate noted that the backing fabric brought down the quality of my samples. In many instances I used washing cloth- a cheap and weak fabric. Kate therefore stated that in future development I need to make considered choices regarding the materials I use, making sure they are high quality.
My samples have also so far been on the smaller scale. However, Kate has encouraged me to enlarge to a bigger scale, as she feels this will create more successful outcomes.
Researching possible materials to use whilst in the tutorial. |
I have decided to focus on creating samples that reflect an idea of reducing anxiety, and being used as a way of meditation. I therefore the tutorial group for possible materials to explore over Easter. I am especially interested in expanding materials, much like a stress balls. They suggested exploring florist jelly balls, knotting and macrame, slime, Latex and Alginite. I am not familiar with a lot of these materials. These will require research and exploration. This collaborative discussion has been very useful and excites me for the possibilities and exploration.
