Easter Holiday Work

Within the Easter holidays, I mostly wanted to focus on exploring new materials, and seeing how successful they would be in creating a sample. I also wanted to research thoroughly information surrounding reducing anxiety, and ways of meditation.

It became apparent through research that stress relieving videos on social media on Instagram have become extremely popular. Creating slime was a big portion of these videos, which I thought would be an interesting material to explore. However, once making this, I realised as a raw material it wouldn’t be practical. This lead to materials that mirrored similar qualities being explored.

Over the Easter period, numerous materials were explored by myself. Most of these materials hadn’t been used by myself, and therefore proved a challenge as I wasn’t experienced in how successful they would be, and also required research. However, this time made me gain confidence that I can learn from testing and experimenting. Though samples may not be successful at first, they will lead to exploration and successful outcomes. As a lot of my work was practical, and done through testing, it was important to document these processes through photography and annotation. As well as identifying my next step for the project, this identifies how successful that particular method was. This will help me in the final stages of my project whilst creating a sample for the exhibition.

Carrying out research has allowed further understanding of how I can use textiles to reduce anxiety. It’s helped create considered ideas around materials and processes I can use whilst sampling. As well as this, researching practitioners who have focused on similar themes or processes to me has helped inspire development of ideas and processes I can combine with already existing ones.
