Project Aims and Intentions
After being given the brief title ‘Games’’ I’ve decided to approach the theme in an abstract way. I have decided to explore using recorded sound data whilst playing games, to inspire my work by symbolising it visually. Over Christmas I decided to focus on collecting voice recordings of various indoor and outdoor games being played.
I’ve now started to capture different sections of those voice recording sound waves visually in my sketchbook. I want to symbolise visually the energy and levels of sound within the games. This will hopefully allow people to view my samples and sketchbook work, and then approach well known games in a different way. Hopefully they will wonder what their favourite game would look like visually from the sounds they make whilst playing.
Within this project I will focus on two categories: board games and outdoor sports games. These are contrasting categories, and from my recordings I can identify a difference of sound levels and emotions within the games. Therefore, I feel it will be important to show that clear difference within my work. A good way to show this comparison will be to consider different colour palettes to work with for both board games and outdoor sports games. Also I will consider the types of marks I use. These are things I will start to experiment with in my work.
