Freedom Within Drawing

Beginning this project, my use of drawing was literal and tight. This was at first a good way to start exploring ideas and thought processes towards the theme of Games. However, as I've started exploring ways of visualizing sounds created whilst playing games, I have realized that this way of drawing isn’t an effective way of evidencing an abstract way of thinking.

One of the recent 'Friday Drawing' sessions has been very useful in introducing an alternative technique for drawing. By absorbing our surroundings, and using unusual objects as tools for drawing, we created extremely interesting marks and outcomes. As well as providing ideas for tools I could create and use for sketchbook work, it also helped stop a fear I have for having a set idea of what a final outcome should look like visually. Instead I should let the process lead my work. At the end, I will be able to analyse what has been created, and pick key successful parts to focus on developing creatively.

Moving on from this drawing session, I want to start creating work directly from listening to games being played, absorbing those sounds completely and losing myself in the idea of allowing my reaction to those sounds to create marks. This, alongside creating unique drawing tools, will capture sounds in a more abstract and successful way than just hand and a pen to paper.
