Colour Consideration
Careful colour consideration is extremely important within
my project. My project explores two categories: outdoor sports games and board games. I’ve
realised separate colour schemes for each category will allow clear differentiation
within my work. Whilst deciding the two colour schemes, I’ve considered what
each type of game symbolises personally, and how that would reflect in colour.
To me, outdoor sports reflect vibrancy. The passion, energy
and loud noise levels, supported by my voice recordings, helped establish a
colour palette to reflect this. I’ve decided to use a bright, bold colour
palette. Though I want to mainly use bright blues, greens, red and yellow as
these are colours I found often repeated in sport games, I will incorporate any
other bright colours if appropriate.
When establishing a colour scheme for work observing board
games, I had a nostalgic approach. I grew up playing board games, and associate
warm, homely emotions towards these memories. Whilst creating a colour palette
to show this, I’ve decided to stick with warm, earthy colours that reflects a
cosy feeling. I will use reoccurring colours of browns, greys and beige.
However, like the colour palette of the outdoor games I will add colours when I
feel appropriate. I have chosen to use shades of yellow and orange when
appropriate. Though these colours are sometimes considered bright, I use only
muted shades such as mustards and amber. This allows no confusion with the
other colour palette for the outdoor sports. I also use these colours sparingly.
