Textiles In Practice: Origins- Evaluation and reflection

Starting this unit I was admittedly nervous to explore areas of textiles I had a lack of knowledge on. However, throughout the Origins unit, I have learnt to use that nervousness to drive me to throw myself into each rotation and broaden my knowledge as much as possible.

The fast paced nature and short duration of each rotation started off as a challenge, as there were areas I felt unable to explore in as much depth as I wanted. This however meant that the eagerness to explore them as much as possible led to effective management of time. This is a skill I believe I have improved on greatly within Origins, which will be integral as I move through the course.

My lack of knowledge in areas within origins meant I started to compare myself to others with more expertise, making me struggle with confidence at the start. However, I learnt that peer communication is an important way to expand my skill set and knowledge. I then became more knowledgeable and made my confidence grow.

In order to ensure my confidence continued to grow, and to keep organised, I attended all weekly meetings and workshops, This ensured all queries were answered and I was prepared for each rotation.
I am surprised that as the course went on, my confidence grew greatly, especially in skills I'd never learnt. This has made a passion for new areas grow, and makes me excited to develop these and continue to introduce new ones.
